Although its anathema to say so, for the sake of your local issue it might be worth soliciting support from any local Labour councillors as well - its a high profile Labour policy nationally and they might be interested in raising the issue for their own ends, but that might benefit you as well. Sometimes, we need to play their game for our own ends ;-)
