I had a fabulous weekend of knititng, talking, eating cake and buying yarn. oh and drinking some wine too. hopefully lots of other people will be better than me at describing what we did, i've just used all my energy describing what I bought, please excuse all the typos!
voila:
these were the books and patterns I bought form the mathematical knitters, Pat Ashforth & Steve Plummer. the easiest will be the crochet cusion cover that has something to do with the 8 times tables. must ask when TT will get to that in the curriculum!
Coldspring was great again, i bought two of each of the cones as i wasn't sure if i was buying for me or someone else. the cones are all synthetic, wasn't sure, but i did a burn test and was left wiht balls of plastic, so they will be wash and wear. the red is for TT, can't remember if it's DK or 4 ply. the purple in the back is wool blend, i think that was DK. plenty for a pullover for me. i'll be trying out the texturing capabilities of the KMs with the smooth yarns.
The skep was cramped but full of stuff again. the weather was dry so they had put some stuff outside, which was nice. I hit the £1 a metre fabric bin first and came away with the batik type for a summer skirt, the printed cotton knit to add to some plain white i already have, it'll be PJ's, might actually ne for me, snce the boys are mayube a bit too old for the pront! the blue is a very stretchy polycotton lycra blend that might just be enough for a skirt to go with my lovely floaty top that i have nothing to wear with. yarn! more lovely loop mohair like last year, but look at the colour! and the finer stuff is probably viscose, fine boucle, purples and browns and cream. i like.
here's my KCg book haul, these were spare copies form the library and they were selling them off, supposedly the skipnorthers bought 200 of them. 35 people, 200 books. plus a fair few people bought New books as well. I think they were glad we came! i bought a handknitting stich guide becasue I don't have one, but the real haul was the machine knitting books. Luckilu I had Mhairi nmext to me to help me choose. Katholeen Kinder is on the britknits mach knit yahoo list, so it was a real treat to get the rest of the set of her books that i wanted.
oh dear. 3 of my kcg cones (and the *cone* mountain is no 0.5 pence per gram) are still in iabella's car. this is the lone one to make it home last night. not sure what it is, but it's probably 2 ply and it's more poodle yarn, which i can't seem to resist. i suppose i could take up teddy bear making!
here's my wingham woolwork haul. 5 skeins of recycled sari silk. two in the often seem pinkish colourway to add to some i already havbe, that will be made into a large tote bag. the other though, the blue, it's gorgeous! i got one skein of all blue for highlights, the others have peaches and reds and stuff. it's very soft. i'm going to make myself a very nice handbag from this. with hopefully a nice firm lining, and little brass feet and everytihg. a pack of dyed niscose neps becasue they looked so pretty, 2 surina hooks, in 4mm as i use it a lot, and 9mm since i have a lot of novelty yarn to use up in a hurry! some silkworm graveyards for my pattern cutting tutors. and another pack to take to the nursery school in case they might be able to use them.
just an up close look at one of the blue sari silk hanks. is that beautifiul or what?
voila:
This is my texere haul. I'd been wanting to go for sooo long! I dind't buy everything I wanted to, but I got myself a catalog that has a sample of each of their catalog yarns so I know what I'm buying mail order... The big cone is squeaky synthetic boucle/poodle type, and will make soft warm washable pullovers. The purple and black stuff is for me! And is a mix if fibres, can't remember what, but it's gorgeous. The orange is to twist my black cotton bubbly that's been languishing in my stash for years. the blue is to make myself something lacy andf beautiful. most of these are destined for the knitting machine.

these were some of the leftovers from the dying workshops. they were put pon the table for anyone who wanted. i nabbed the large cone, which i am told is hemp. the rest were what was left once everyone else had taken some. so since it would fit in the by now empty brownie tin, i just took what was left - thank you very much!
