I'm going to have to pass on the store cupboard thing. I was allowed to make the gravy for last night's roast chicken dinner, but other than the odd slice of toast or cup of coffee, I'm not in the kitchen a lot.

I don't even know what's in my kitchen cupboards at the moment. Staples are either running out or we have twice as many as we need becasue both my parents and BIll have bought them.

I did have a trip to Sainsbury's last weekend, and one to Lidl on Friday. You'd be surprised how important it felt to me to be able to choose what food was coming into my house.

There are packets of gravy mix and casserole sauce in my house! Why do I find that so awful when I'll happily buy stock cubes - is there really that much difference? Is being a kitchen snob a good thing or bad?

Pumpkin & Leek soup tonight. The (probably too large) pumpkin that never got carved into a jack-o-lantern, leeks, and stock from last night's chicken.

If I can face it, soda bread. If not, ciabatta rolls from the freezer.

Maybe I'll play properly next month when my kitchen is my own again.

ETA: we have jars of curry sauce, and sometimes marinades, but they don't count either, do they?

Stock cubes are totally different! I couldn't for the life of me tell you why, but they are. If I come and see you this week, should I bring food? I know Bill is perfectly capable, but a sick friend makes me want to bring food. I've developed an awesome skill for fresh pesto.

And can I come and see you this week? Thursday or Friday, maybe?

there's plenty of food here, i just don't have any control over it, and now my friends are all torturing me with blog posts about store cupboards and cooking lovely food. aargh. have they no sympathy?

Friday would be good, Thursday we have an away day with the nursery school

Lol...sorry about that! If you look closely though you'll see the odd packet mix in my storecupboard. But they're from France, so that's different. And I use PROPER traditional-like-mum Bisto powder. So yup, I'm a larder snob too, I suppose!

Actually it's because I've somewhat lost control over my own store cupboard that I'm doing the Challenge. And my family love clear-out-the-cupboard weeks, because the cooking gets a bit more inventive. Usually...sometimes it gets a bit TOO inventive. Tuna and bean omelettes, anyone?

erm, no thanks to tuna and bean omelette. tuna and bean is a great combination, but no, i agree with your family, not when combined with omellette.

proper bisto is an ingredient. it doesn't count. i probably have some of that but it might be a decade old. must have a clear out.
