thumb update
Jan. 12th, 2007 05:22 pmwell, aren't i clever. i have nerve damage. i figured it out myself. when i started to wonder why i could still feel tingling and a little numbness in the pad of my thumb when i knew that the dressing on the cut is now loose.
today, i get sharp excruciating pain if i move my thumb the wrong way, yu know, like an electric shock. and that tingling.
so i thought about it and called nhs 24. where basically the guy told me i should have had it seen to when it happened and that no, there is no point in going to the mimor injuries clinic after 4 days.
ok, so i know i should have had it seen to on monday afternoon, but you know, i have 2 kids and i would have needed to take my 2 hungry kids with me, and with those sorts of considerations one tends to think, ok, i've managed to stop the bleeding, i think i'll just go and shiver on the sofa for a while instead.
he told me to phone my GP, and well, it might be permanent but it might be fixable, but it's too late for emergency treatment now and well, it might *not* be permanent.
i phoned the GP, made an appt for mondauy, and the receptionist said she'd get the on duty GP to call me.
she called after half an hour or so, asked me how it felt, if I had made a "hole" in my thumb. yes i had. could I still move it? yes, I can. then said, well, you've got nerve trauma, your tendons sound to be fine but you've damaged a nerve. keep moving it and massaging it and come in on monday if it's no better.
i felt much better after being given something to *do* so I am massaging away at it and still trying not to move it too far. curse my hypermobile joints...
i have not made anything since last weekend. it's doing my head in. i can't even make a fucking sandwich!
i'm going to have a go at the thank you cards tomorrow. my right handed handwriting is improving no end.
