thumb update again
Jan. 17th, 2007 10:38 amI saw the quack on monday about my thumb. The fact that I have some tingling is a good sign, that means that i probably just damaged the nerve and didn't sever it completely. the fact that it was agonisingly painful when I did it bodes well for that too. he asked if it was really painful, and I said lying on the sofa, weeping kind of painful. He nodded wisely.
I can now do most things again, I still can't hold a big chopping knife, so Bill is doing the cooking, and I daren't do anything like wash a glass because I can't feel it properly, so I worry I'll break it. It is also still incredibly painful if I bump it, or put pressure
on it. Again though, that seems to mean the nerve in question is still there. the doctor said that damaged nerves regenerate at a rate of less than a millimetre a day, and it will probably be 6 weeks before i know how it will end up. he also said that doing stuff with it is good, so crocheting and knitting are prescribed, becasue not only does it have to heal and regenerate, my brain needs to lay down some new pathways. ooh.
as for the cut, it seems to have healed really well, but I am keeping it covered up when I'm driving, or doing stuff that would rub on it.
and the quack also told me not to blame myself for not going to casuality - he said that all they would have done was stop the bleeding, they woulnd't have investigated for nerve damage. so i would have been in the same position as I am now, but i would have spend goodness knows how much of last monday at little france.
I can crochet again, but not fast, and that means that my dad's birthday present is going to be late.
i am going knitting tonight., i might even take knitting, i haven't tried that yet.
